Why Do Teenagers Choose One Brand Over the Others?
The brands teens love have changed a lot since 2019. Here's what changed, and what didn't.
my very first post, eek!How brands have changed over time (2019–2026)
Over the past few years, the brands that teenagers choose have changed significantly. Around 2019–2020, brands such as Nike, SHEIN and Amazon were very popular. Nike was popular because of its comfortable clothing, colourful designs, reasonable prices, and popular styles. Amazon became especially important during the pandemic because of its convenience, wide variety of products, and affordable options. SHEIN also became very popular because of its low prices, convenience, and the amount of attention it received on TikTok.
Although these brands are very different from one another, they had something in common during the pandemic: everyone wanted comfort with affordable pricing. Social media became an important way for teenagers to discover new products and brands.
Nowadays, brands have changed their marketing strategies because they have started paying much more attention to what is happening on the internet. Companies now look at what influencers are promoting, what products are going viral, and what teenagers are interested in. Today, teenagers often look for comfort, affordable prices, popular styles, and a strong brand image. However, one of the biggest factors is how a brand is viewed online. If a brand is popular on social media, more people may become interested in it.
Fashion
Fashion trends have also changed. In 2019 and 2020, trends included Lululemon leggings, tie-dye, and bright colours. Now, Y2K fashion and vintage styles have become much more popular. This has helped brands such as Hollister become popular again because their clothing fits the vintage and Y2K style that many teenagers are interested in.
Another change is the growing popularity of thrift stores. Instead of only buying new clothing from online stores and boutiques, some teenagers are looking for unique and vintage pieces in thrift stores.
UGG is another example of a brand that has benefited from changing trends. UGG has been popular for many years, but its products have become trendy again because they fit the current Y2K and casual fashion styles. Their neutral colours also make them easy to wear with different outfits and aesthetics.
Beauty and skincare
Makeup and beauty brands have also changed the way they market their products. Instead of mainly targeting older teenagers and young adults, many brands are now trying to appeal to younger teenagers as well. TikTok has played a major role in this change because teenagers can promote and discover beauty products through short videos. Brands have also changed their packaging to make their products look more colourful, attractive, and luxurious.
Another major change is the focus on skincare. Many beauty brands now promote skincare benefits alongside makeup products. Korean skincare trends have also become more popular, while celebrities and influencers are often used to promote these products.
Conclusion
After researching this topic, I realized that teenagers do not necessarily choose just one brand over all the others. Instead, their choices are influenced by many factors, including influencers, social media trends, price, comfort, brand image, and personal style.
A brand can become popular when it fits current trends and appeals to the people who are seeing it online.
As social media continues to change, the brands teenagers choose will likely continue to change as well.
